About
Since they were established in 2001 The Freedman Fellowships have supported over 40 artists from the jazz and classical fields.
Following a review of the program in 2024 the Fellowships now focus on jazz.
The Fellowships were conceived by Laurence Freedman AM, Kathy Freedman and Richard Letts AM.
From 2001 – 2013 the program was managed by the Music Council of Australia. In 2014, management passed to The Music Trust and administration to SIMA (Sydney Improvised Music Association). The program is now managed by consultant
Paul Mason for the Freedman Foundation.
The Freedman Foundation was established by Laurence and Kathy Freedman to assist young Australians in music and thevisual arts, and to support medical and scientific programs.
