Freedman Jazz Fellowship

FAQ’s

I

Is there still a classical fellowship?

No. The program was reviewed in 2024 and it is now focussed on jazz. Find out more here

What is jazz?

We want to know what you think. How do you see yourself aligning with, developing or subverting the body of work understood as jazz? What are your references, touch points or inspirations? What do you do with that inspiration?

I am a student - should I apply?

Previous recipients have generally been at the mid-career point, with a well developed artistic vision and a track record of achievement. If you think that sounds like you, you should apply.

Do I need to provide a budget?

A detailed budget is not required. However, demonstrating an understanding of the costs involved in your project will strengthen your application.

If I am selected as a finalist how does the performance work?

•  You - and any supporting musicians you require - must be available to perform on November 22nd in Sydney.

•  Finalists will be contacted directly to make arrangements for their performance. Domestic travel costs and accomodation will be covered for those outside of Sydney and their supporting musicians.

•  A performance fee will be provided for artists, and any supporting musicians.

Can my group apply?

No. The fellowship is for individuals only
